What on Earth is Pluto doing?

Pluto sextile Chiron 4th April 2013 - this influence can be felt now

This alignment of Pluto, planet of power, and Chiron the healer, has great potential, although its influence may not be that dramatic or noticeable. This is a positive alignment that can help to clear past hurts. It is a time of transformation, rebirth and regeneration. This is not a 'doing' aspect, it may be that all that is required of us is to trust and be willing to let go. Time to forgive and move on? See also Chiron.

Strong influence Uranus-Pluto square 2011 - 2015

Uranus in Aries square Pluto in Capricorn 20th May 2013
Strong influence

Over the last few years Uranus and Pluto have moved into a challenging alignment, first exact on the 24th June 2012. These two planets again align exactly on the 20th May introducing another phase in the major shake up taking place in our world. The traditional power bases of politics, government, financial institutions and the church are under pressure to reform, and it is not a case of patching things up; changes must be made at the core. Opposition to the inappropriate and damaging old ways is increasing; people have had enough, and rebellion stirs.

This Uranus - Pluto influence is with us until the Spring of 2015, and it may not be until then that we start to see the dust settle on this challenging time for humanity and the civilisations we have created. Those of us that are in touch with our humanity pray for a time when peace and equality fill our world; a time when love is at the core of action rather than fear and greed. We have a long way to go, but through our heartfelt intentions we will get there. See also Uranus.

The pressure is continuing as both Uranus and Pluto exert their powerful influence on the Earth, which includes the very structure of the planet.

The revolutionary nature of Uranus is bringing disruption and challenges to the outmoded traditional power bases that no longer serve us or the planet we live on. The financial and political institutions that run this world need to reform. Uranus also governs humanity and the days when people kept quiet and were easily led are gone. There will be growing resistance and opposition to the way things are and an ever increasing demand for change.

This challenging aspect between two of the major planets that shape our experiences on Earth is first exact in June 2012 and we are certainly experiencing its influence in the world today. I have over the last year spoken about the forces for change and renewal in the world and their challenge to existing power bases. This aspect between Uranus and Pluto is one of the strongest and most powerful planetary influences contributing to the challenges we face in these changing times.

With regard to the environment, humanitarian needs, government and financial institutions we still we have the options and the choice to change, but these matters are becoming far more immediate and one way or another change will happen. We are still enjoying the moderating influence of Saturn in Libra the sign of peace and diplomacy. In October 2012 Saturn moves on to Scorpio, suggesting it is even more imperative that we address the problems we face and find the positive solutions needed now.

Pluto is in Capricorn until 2024

In astrology the planet Pluto is regarded as the ruler of Scorpio; it is the giver of life and the bringer of death, and in its influence on our lives it shapes our destiny, driving and motivating us to fulfills our potential and be all that we can be. In the world today we are becoming more aware of how separate or not our lives are from others; how what we do has consequences and that consideration of others must play a part in our actions and deeds.

Pluto first entered the sign of Capricorn on the 26th January 2008 an event that last occurred in the mid eighteenth century. Pluto was leaving the sign of Sagittarius which it first entered in 1994, and we only have to look at the things governed by that sign to see how influential the planet has been in our world over the last 13 or so years. Politics, religion, journalism and education have all taken centre stage in our lives, sometimes alone and sometimes together! The world of journalism seemingly wields more power now than one can shake the proverbial stick at, political correctness has us in a stranglehold and it will be no surprise to hear one day that children will be taking intelligence tests in the womb!

But what of the good news I hear you cry. Well over the last 13 years we have been sorting fact from fiction, and learning who we truly are and what we aspire to be. With luck, and a strong dose of hard work, we have learnt that each day can be an adventure for us to live rather than something to worry about or a problem to solve.

Now back to Capricorn. Knowing what we now know, how are we going to put this knowledge to constructive use? Climate change, poverty, and other global issues must be tackled and now, if we are to secure a future for our children. Pluto is power and Capricorn responsibility so the stage is set for the re-ordering of our world and hopefully the successful resolution of the global conflicts and imbalances.

On a personal level the significance of Pluto’s influence will be felt in relation to our long term commitments, such as marriage, career and parenting. We may need to question the responsibilities we have taken on in life and the duties we perform. A question that relates to us both personally and globally is a simple one, ‘do we care’, and if we do, then ‘what are we going to do about it?’ Pluto in Capricorn heralds a time of positive action when what needs to be done can be done and what needs to change can be changed.

Previous notes on Pluto in Capricorn

During the first six months of 2008 Pluto began to assert itself through the sign of Capricorn, something it hadn't done for about 240 years. Some of what I wrote then can be read above, and now in light of our experience of Pluto’s affect over the last few years we have a better idea of what lies ahead with Pluto in Capricorn and set to be there until 2024. In the world Capricorn is the sign that has rulership over such things as governments, world trade, banks, the financial market, investment, property and there I think I had better leave it, as I am sure you get the picture! The order of our world is being seriously upgraded.

Pluto brings to light issues in order to make them more conscious. It works on the underlying values, intentions and motives that fuel our lives. And, talking of fuel, Pluto also governs oil, gas and other power sources. I am sure most readers see a half full glass where there is one, rather than a half empty one, but it has to be said it is a strain at times. Pluto has shown us the real state of our economy, the world economy, and got the ball rolling when it comes to seeing what really is valuable in life.

Over the coming years we can hope to see more care taken of our planet and a reduction in the destructive exploitation of it. We can hope to see a fairer and just society where we take greater care of each other, particularly the elderly and the vulnerable. We can look forward to global financial backing for world health and food aid, for as we know while many suffer stress and anxiety over fluctuating share prices, far more die form sickness and starvation for want of basic needs every day.

Pluto means business and we had better take the issues it raises seriously. In the next decade humanity will be focusing on what is really important, but least we should become consumed with fear there are a few things worth remembering. While it journeyed through Sagittarius Pluto made us very aware of what is right for the future of this planet if humanity means to survive. It is said that the point of power is in the moment, let us pray we use it to make the right choices.
