What on Earth is Saturn doing?

Saturn is in Scorpio until September 2015

On Friday the 5th October 2012, Saturn left Libra and began a transit of Scorpio. The sign of the Scorpion is symbolic of Autumn and the seasonal feelings that accompany this time of year are now truly upon us.

Saturn in Libra had been helping us to assess what relationship meant for us. We have looked at the restrictions and limitations, debated obligation and duty and should now know how to respond to others with wisdom and maturity. If our work involves counselling or advising then we should now feel qualified to do the job we do. Saturn has also been 'keeping the peace' in Libra, although looking around the world this is hard to believe! Without the diplomatic input of Saturn in Libra we may now find that events in our world have a more abrupt or sudden 'sting' to them.

Saturn's transit of Scorpio will take relating to a another level. The areas of our lives ruled by Scorpio are 'deep and meaningful' to say the least and include all levels of desire from the bittersweet flame of unrequited love to the raging fires of obsession and jealousy. Saturn always has a 'get real' way of operating, and in Scorpio it will no doubt bring to the surface hidden motives, especially where these involve the manipulation or coercion of others. In terms of the big picture, this means that we will be held to account for actions.

Birth and death are within the realm of Scorpio. Over the coming years we can expect these areas to be thoroughly reviewed, perhaps at last we will reach an authoritative judgment on 'the right to die'. Sexuality is also a Scorpio concern, and it is in regard to all aspects of this life giving energy that we can expect to see reforms, and as with all transits of Saturn it is where we are not facing up to reality that we can expect the hardest lessons.

Scorpio covers all forms of therapy, but particularly those which relate to abuse and addiction. There are some dark places that are ruled by Scorpio, and her archetype Persephone was no stranger to the underworld. However, what was lost to the dark could be reborn to the light and thankfully with the assistance of Saturn in Scorpio all therapeutic processes have a greater chance of empowering constructive change and effecting positive transformation. And remember there is no such thing as a lost cause where Scorpio and Saturn are concerned!

Scorpio also governs joint finances, such as those held in trust or with credit companies, and here again Saturn will be demanding that we address the real situation regarding the state of our finances. Maybe it's the cynic in me but, as I wrote that I thought, once the government has finished robbing the living they will find a way of robbing the dead. Just a thought, we will see how that plays out, but I guess it may not be good news where inheritance tax is concerned!

Reading this you will probably feel something of the flavour of Saturn in Scorpio and the challenges that lie ahead. But there is good news! Seen in the context of the bigger picture Saturn in Scorpio is just what we need, it will add substance to the changes going on in the world, perhaps a little order. Scorpio is ruled by Pluto and Saturn rules Capricorn which as we know is presently occupied by Pluto. So these major planetary influences will be occupying each others signs; it may not provide immediate solutions to the worlds problems but it is without doubt a step on the ladder to achieving them. Saturn in Scorpio

On the 5th October Saturn entered Scorpio which it last occupied in 1985. We have entered a phase of reflecting on how we respond to the needs of others. We may look at what we have to offer other people in terms of our abilities or resources. Scorpio governs all aspects of therapy and if we work in this field we may reassess what we do. Scorpio also relates to joint finances and debts, and these may need reorganising as they come under scrutiny and require more of our attention.

The sign of Scorpio is associated with joint finances, banks and other investment businesses. Saturn rules governing bodies and the structures they work with, so hopefully this transit will give us the 'get real' response we are looking for when it comes to the ways in which our finances are managed. Banks and financial institutions have been under considerable pressure to reform their practices, under the Saturn influence this can hardly be ignored or avoided.

All forms of therapy come under the rulership of Saturn and it is likely that the regulating of these therapies will come sharply into focus over the next few years. We will also see greater discussion of 'the right to die', and also the effectiveness in caring for the elderly, sick, and others in need of support. We will all have reason to consider the ways in which we use our resources to help others, whether through the use of our skills, or financial aid.
