The main objective of the Iris Trust is to help women who have escaped domestic violence to re-build their lives, by addressing the main problems on a personal level – the high amount of stress and the low self-confidence.

All the women in refuges suffer from emotional and mental distress in various degrees. High levels of stress can be the cause for depression as well as physical illness. Most women have been put down and humiliated by their abusive partners sometimes over many years with the effect that they have a very poor self-esteem and not much self-confidence.

We run relaxation/meditation courses in women refuges which are specifically designed to address this. The exercises in the course help to relieve stress from mind and body, to promote a positive outlook and increased self-confidence. We believe this to be very important as only people who believe they can achieve something are trying to do so. This increase in self-believe empowers the women to make positive changes in their lives which again reflects favourably on their children.

The courses we have run so far have been very well received and we got encouraging feedback a sample of which can be seen here.
